Good Morning and welcome to this week’s edition of INSPIRATIONAL TIDBITS. Since Mardi Gras will be OVER by next week’s edition, I thought I would give it a nod this week. Ah, youth – partying and drinking in the street. Which brings us to today’s quotes, which are unfortunately the opposite – they’re all about getting OLDER. “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter” - Mark Twain “Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children” - George Bernard Shaw “The first sign of maturity is the discovery that the volume knob also turns to the left” -Jerry M. Wright “I still have a full deck; I just shuffle slower now” - Unknown “There is still no cure for the common birthday” - John Glenn “You can live to be a hundred if you give up all things that make you want to live to be a hundred” - Woody Allen “The elderly don't drive that slow; they're just the only ones with enough time to do the speed limit” - Jason Love Let’s end this on a positive note: “You can't turn back the clock, but you can wind it up again” - Bonnie Prudden Ah, yes – the BRAINSQUEEZERS. Was there ever any question that they would return in all their glory? A couple of Mardi Gras questions thrown in there too – ‘tis the Season. 1. Which of these is NOT one of the “seven virtues”? ( prudence; justice; perseverance ) 2. A cluster of bananas is called a ( band; hand; cluster ) 3. The term “knuckle down” comes from which sport? ( marbles; boxing; bowling ) 4. In this sequence, which month comes next? April, August, December, February,… January 5. Which of these is NOT one of the 3 official colors of Mardi Gras? ( green; gold; red; purple ) TIEBREAKER: In what year was the first New Orleans Mardi Gras Parade held? 1857 OBSCURE EXTRA BONUS QUESTION: What time is it if 2 hours ago it was as long after 1:00 PM as it was before 1:00 AM? 9:00 PM
Looks like a repeat winner today, since JODI got 4 out of 5 to win it again. Stephen & Mike V each got 3 to share the Silver. Stephen was also the only one to exactly guess the tiebreaker, and his 1857 was also the “low” tiebreaker answer (1973 was the high). I was very pleased that a few actually “did the math” on the obscure question and got it right. Kudos to Stephen (again), James, Phil and Heather for acing that one. No skunks, and everybody who entered actually got a minimum of TWO right today. Congrats to Jodi again – see you next week. MJB
